FAQs

What is a local START fund?

Corporations, companies, organizations and individuals that want to dedicate a charity fund to support their community before, during and after disaster. A monthly $1,000 contribution for a maximum of two years, creates a foundation supporting charitable events in your community for disaster recovery.

How does Full Project, Material or Labor Sponsorship work?

Sponsors fund specific projects, gaining direct branding and distinction throughout the entire project, while supporting long-term recovery efforts.

Sponsors choose from a variety of options: Full project, financial backing only, material donation, labor donation or other in-kind material, service or good.

What are the Sponsor responsibilities?

Once fully vested, the START sponsor will host one annual charitable event, managing and branding it to support local communities. If the sponsor does not wish to host, the International Fire Foundation will host the event as proxy. All donations raised will benefit the charity designated by the sponsor. The recipient must be a registered 501(3)c, an affected family or first responder agency supporting the local community.

Who benefits from sponsorship?

Local communities and first responders affected by disasters receive direct support through funded events.

Is there tax benefit?

Yes, sponsorships leverage IFF’s 501(c)(3) status for full tax exemption under the allowances of the law.

Direct Impact: Housing

Housing may be donated on a permanent, temporary or as-needed basis. Sponsors choose how to impact affected families by supplying the necessary funding to secure safe and adequate housing; offering vacancies in their own properties or donating estates to the International Fire Foundation for emergency, short, mid and long term housing needs.

The START fund is a self sustaining community fund built to invest resources before, during and after disaster. The START Fund covers the initial start-up costs associated with hosting the event. Charitable events are then planned, executed and operated by volunteers with a fire safety mindset. The funds raised during the event are reimbursed back into the START fund for future programs, and the balance is donated to the charity, affected family or first responder agency of choice as agreed on by the Sponsor and the International Fire Foundation.
